in commemoration of the March 1st Independence Movement, and the establishment of the Korean Provisional Government on April 11
New York, April 1, 2019 - Korean Cultural Center New York (KCCNY), a branch of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Korea, is proud to present Film Screening: 100 Years of Memory. This special screening of Korean films highlight the courageous lives of Korean independence fighters. The lineup includes Assassination (2015), The Age of Shadows (2016) and Mal-Mo-E: The Secret Mission (2019), and will be screened at The Landmark at 57 West (657 West 57th St, at 12th Ave, New York, NY) on April 9 - 11, 2019, each evening at 7 pm.
2019 marks the 100th anniversary of the March 1st Independence Movement, and the establishment of the Korean Provisional Government on April 11. Remembering a painful and complex chapter in Korean history, KCCNY is presenting a special screening of three Korean films that highlight the courageous lives of the independence fighters and Korea’s struggle for freedom.

The Age of Shadows

Starring: Song Kang-ho, Gong Yoo, Han Ji-min, Shin Sung-rok
Formerly a Korean resistance fighter, a policeman working for Japan is tasked with tracking down resistance leaders before they acquire explosives.
Mal-Mo-E: The Secret Mission

Directed by Eom Yu-na
Starring: Yoo Hae-jin, Yoon Kye-sang
Imprisoned several times during the 1940s, when Korea was under Japanese occupation, Kim Pan-Soo does not know how to read or write Korean as it is banned by the Imperial government. He meets a representative of the Korean Language Society and joins forces to publish a dictionary of the Korean language. The title refers to an old Korean dialect word which roughly translates to "collecting vocabularies."
Assassination

Starring: Jun Ji-hyun, Lee Jung-jae, Ha Jung-woo
A group of Korean resistance fighters working in China has a plan to assassinate a highly ranked Japanese officer. Their plan involves breaking a sniper out of prison, but they also need to deal with a traitor in their midst.
