“In the coming year, the Republic of Korea’s dream is to see the people living vibrantly together on a peaceful Korean Peninsula. The Republic of Korea will always be with you.”
So said the New Year’s card for 2019 sent by President Moon Jae-in to world leaders, ethnic Koreans abroad and Koreans of national merit.
The card expressed his gratitude to world leaders for supporting Seoul’s journey toward peace in 2018.
In his New Year’s message to the Korean people, President Moon said, “This year, we dreamed about peace. In the coming year, we’ll dream about living in harmony together.”
“The year 2019 marks the centennial anniversary of the March 1 Pro-democracy Independence Movement, and we have to begin a new century,” he added. “You have to make yourself happy to make everybody happy. I wish you a very inclusive and sharing New Year.”
In a first, this year’s presidential New Year’s message also comes in a holographic video viewable with a hologram kit. Cheong Wa Dae on Dec. 18 released a video on its official YouTube channel of the president dressed in blue Hanbok (traditional Korean costume) while delivering season’s greetings (www.youtube.com/watch?v=vqLEYoIaJr8).
The card’s cover features a traditional-style painting of the ten symbols of longevity and two pigs to mark the Year of the Pig in 2019 according to the Chinese zodiac.
